About us

Our story, from the beginning.

How a few conversations, a handful of volunteers and a lot of borrowed suitcases became a mission team that keeps going back.

Chapter one

It started with listening.

Before there was a team, a name or a single mission trip, there were conversations. Our founder, Ruthza Jean-Baptiste, kept hearing the same story from families in underserved communities: a toothache that had lasted months, a child who could not see the board at school, a grandmother whose blood pressure had never been checked. The clinics were too far, too expensive, or simply not there.

What struck her most was not only the need, but how rarely anyone had asked. People were not waiting for charity. They were waiting to be heard, and then for someone to show up.

Chapter two

A few volunteers, a lot of suitcases.

The first mission was small. A handful of clinicians who believed the same thing packed donated supplies into their own luggage, paid their own way, and set up care wherever there was room: a school classroom, a church hall, a borrowed clinic.

The line formed before sunrise and was still there at dusk. Some patients walked for hours. Many had never seen a dentist or had their eyes examined. By the end of those first days, the team knew two things: the work mattered, and one visit would never be enough.

Chapter three

From a group of friends to a mission team.

Word spread. Physicians brought colleagues, dentists brought hygienists, nurses brought pharmacists, and teachers joined to turn every clinic day into a lesson in prevention. First responders, translators, event planners and neighbours who simply wanted to help found their place too.

That circle became Green Light International Mission Team Corp. (GLIMT), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is still entirely volunteer-powered. Members cover their own costs, so every donation goes where it matters most: to medication, supplies and care in the field.

Chapter four

Why we keep going back.

Because the child who got glasses last year is now reading ahead of her class. Because the patient who learned his blood pressure was dangerously high is now on treatment and back at work. Because the local nurses we trained are carrying the work forward long after our team flies home.

Lasting change does not come from a single visit. It comes from returning, from partnering with the clinics, schools and leaders a community already trusts, and from keeping the promise we made on that first mission: we heard you, and we will be back.

What guides us

Our values in the field.

Dignity first
Every patient is treated with the same respect we would want for our own family.
Care for all
Regardless of age, race, gender or religion. No one is turned away.
Prevention matters
We treat what we find and teach what prevents it from coming back.
Local partnership
We work with clinics, schools and leaders already trusted in the community.
Stewardship
Volunteers cover their own costs so gifts go to medication, supplies and care.
Show up again
Lasting change comes from returning, not from a single visit.

Stand with the mission.

There is a place for everyone at GLIMT, whether you give, partner, sponsor or serve in the field.
